‘Architect of my own misery’: Gwyneth Paltrow made 'a big mess' of her relationship with Brad Pitt

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Brad Pitt has currently been involved in a legal fight with his ex-wife, Angelina Jolie. The ‘Fight Club’ star has sued Jolie for allegedly selling her stake in a winery, Chateau Miraval, which they co-owned earlier, without his consent. The actor’s lawyers have termed the ‘Original Sin’ actress’ step taken in 2021 “vindictive”.

As per a new official paper filed in court on Thursday, June 1, by Pitt’s lawyers, as reported by CNN, “Her decision to terminate negotiations with Pitt was intentional and pretextual. As will be demonstrated at trial, Jolie’s actions were unlawful, severely and intentionally damaging Pitt and unjustly enriching herself.”

Though Pitt is facing difficulties now after ending his relationship with Jolie, there was a time he was happily romantically involved with Gwyneth Paltrow. The ‘Babylon’ star and Paltrow were the ‘It’ couple of the 90s after meeting while filming the 1995 movie ‘Se7en’. A year later in 1996, they got engaged also. But eventually, Pitt and the ‘Shakespeare in Love’ actress parted ways. However, it seems Paltrow's admiration for Pitt has not ended yet.

‘He was so gorgeous’

Paltrow once told HuffPost, “I definitely fell in love with him. He was so gorgeous and sweet and, I mean, he was Brad Pitt, you know?” before noting, “I was such a kid. I mean I was 22 when we met and it's taken me until 40 to get my head out of my ass. You can't make a decision when you're 22 years old.”

In 2003 again, the 50-year-old held herself responsible for the end of the relationship. She shared as per Entertainment Weekly, “I was the architect of my own misery. I just made a big mess out of it.” Paltrow also told ET in 2022, “When we first broke up, we weren't friends for a while and then we sort of found our way back, probably about 18 or 19 years ago, something like that, and then just kind of stayed in touch over the years.”

‘I really love him’

She asserted, “I adore him. He's an amazing person, and he's a great entrepreneur, and such a creative, and such a good person. I really love him. I'm a big fan.” At the time, the ‘Sliding Doors’ actress also applauded her current husband, Brad Falchuk, with whom she tied the knot in 2018 after divorcing her first husband, Chris Martin. She said, “My husband is probably like the least judgmental, most secure man in our relationship, so I think he totally respects [the friendship].”

“Probably one of the things that he likes about me is that I believe in conscious uncoupling, whether you're uncoupling with a coworker, a spouse, or a boyfriend, I really do believe that if you've invested in somebody -- and of course, there are exceptions -- to amputate that relationship [shows that] maybe you're not then fully letting the full lesson reveal itself and the healing happens,” Paltrow added.
