Ed Sheeran claims Eminem 'cured' his childhood stutter caused by traumatic medical procedure

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a wonderful gesture, Ed Sheeran credited Eminem for "curing" his childhood stutter, revealing the quirky connection between the two musicians. British musician Ed, 32, is alleged to have acquired a stutter after having a blemish removed by laser when he was a child. Eminem's songs reportedly helped Ed overcome his speech impediment.

The 'Thinking Out Loud’ singer had a stutter owing to this traumatic birthmark treatment. Reportedly, during one of the sessions, the doctors neglected to numb his face before lasering away the birthmark, which was located close to the singer's eye. Ed's speech was damaged by the excruciating pain caused by the doctor's negligence in forgetting to administer an anesthetic before starting the laser therapy.

‘This guy's the next Bob Dylan'

Following the unfortunate incident, Ed underwent speech treatment as a child to get rid of his stutter. The singer has now opened up about how an influential record by Eminem, The Marshall Mathers LP, helped him rediscover his voice.

Ed has revealed: "I was going through all sorts of speech therapy. When I was nine, my uncle bought me The Marshall Mathers LP. He just said to my dad, 'This guy's the next Bob Dylan'. My dad didn't really clock it, he's just like, 'Okay, Edward's going to go and listen to that."

"By learning that record and rapping it back to back to back to back, it cured my stutter," Ed explained on The Howard Stern Show. The musician has collaborated with Eminem ever since he shot to international popularity and recently won a copyright lawsuit in New York for his song Thinking Out Loud.

‘He’s another person I really relate to’

When asked about the rapper, Ed said: "I've known him for six years, and during that time, we've collaborated on three songs. I've also shared the stage with him twice. He’s another person I really relate to, as he lives in his hometown and has his ecosystem around him." The 32-year-old was recently found 'not guilty' of copyright infringement by a Manhattan jury, which occurred only a few weeks prior to this new revelation about Sheeran's childhood stutter.

The estate of Ed Townsend, who penned and composed Marvin Gaye's popular song ‘Let's Get It On’, accused Ed of taking bits of the song's melody without consent or giving credit to compose the tune for 'Thinking Out Loud'. The situation then led to him becoming engaged in a high-profile court dispute. Sheeran had threatened to quit the music business if found guilty but was ultimately exonerated by the court.
