Steve-O awkwardly had to correct an interview question on a new podcast appearance - by clarifying he was addicted to drugs, and not a popular soda drink. The Jackass star appeared on Steven Bartlett's Diary of a CEO, where he spoke about his addiction to getting attention, and drug addiction. Reading out an interview from 2007, Bartlett noted that Steve-O was 'living off Diet Coke, booze, and nitrous'. Selena Gomez has stunned in a show-stopping red dress as she marks her return to the VMAs red carpet. Gomez’s appearance at the 2023 MTV VMA’s is a delightful treat for fans since she hadn’t publicly announced that she would be attending, but her showing up in style is far from a surprise. The “Single Soon” singer is up for not only Song of the Year, but Collaboration of the Year, and the Best Afrobeats VMA Awards. The last time the star attended the VMAs was back in 2015, when she was nominated for Song of the Summer for her collaboration with A$AP Rocky on “Good For You.” Gomez also performed “Same Old Love” from her hit album Revival and hung out with one of her longtime best friends Taylor Swift throughout the evening. The Only Murders in The Building actor may be adding a few more trophies to her collection tonight for her international pop hit with Rema for “Calm Down.” Photos posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, showed Gomez posing with fans outside of the awards show, which is taking place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. She also posted a video on Instagram of her singing the song along the way to the event. Of the song, Rema told Pitchfork, “‘Calm Down’ is about the events that led me to finding love at the time”. Astronomers are hoping to receive a message from aliens after a 40-year wait for a reply comes to an end. On 15 August 1983, a pair of hopeful astronomers at Stanford University beamed a message into space via an antenna. They believe that 22 August 2023 is the earliest time they can expect to receive a reply. The experiment was the brain-child of professors Masaki Morimoto and Hisashi Hirabayashi, who, around 40 years ago, beamed 13 drawings in radio waves to a star named Altair, approximately 16.7 light-years away from Earth. The 13 drawings sent into space by Morimoto and Hirabayashi were designed to tell the story of human evolution and how human beings came to exist on Earth. Drawings depicted how humans evolved from microscopic creatures that eventually moved from water onto land. It also explained our solar system and what DNA is. It was the hope that if there was any intelligent life on planets close to the star, they would interpret the messages and hopefully send a reply. In anticipation of a reply, a team at The University of Hyogo in Japan will monitor for a reply using the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency’s (JAXA) antenna. Led by Shinya Narusawa, the team will listen for around an hour for signs of unusual radio activity or signals that could suggest a reply. Narusawa explained: “A large number of exoplanets have been detected since the 1990s,” adding, “Altair may have a planet whose environment can sustain life.” Unfortunately, if a reply is received, it will be too late for Morimoto, one of the professors responsible for the original project, after he died in 2010. Dr Hirabayashi, the other pioneer, is currently a professor emeritus at JAXA. It is yet to be seen whether he will see his 40-year experiment gets the conclusion he was hoping for. Paris Hilton has hit back at people on the internet who mocked the physical appearance of her baby boy, Phoenix. The reality television stalwart had posted a picture of the child, who is nine months old, on Instagram, saying it was her “precious angel baby’s” first time in New York. But some commenters picked up on the size of Phoenix’s head. One person joked: “Y’all he’s just got a lot on his mind leave the kid alone.” Others speculated whether or not Phoenix’s large head was a result of a medical condition. Hotel heiress Hilton responded in the comments section: “There are some sick people in this world. “My angel is perfectly healthy. And yes, of course he has been to a doctor, he just has a large brain.” Hilton and her husband, businessman Carter Reum, welcomed Phoenix on 16 January. They married in 2021. After he was born, she told People magazine: “It’s always been my dream to be a mother, and I’m so happy that Carter and I found each other. “We are so excited to start our family together, and our hearts are exploding with love for our baby boy.” Her post featuring the child is the latest example of a celebrity posting a picture of their young children online, also known as sharenting, which has become an increasingly controversial practice. Some experts say parents should avoid posting pictures of their children until they are old enough to give consent. Earlier this year, politicians in France even put forward a bill which would stop mums and dads from making money by posting photos and videos of their kids. Nonetheless, commenters’ jibes on Hilton’s Instagram seem particularly cruel, given Phoenix has no way of defending himself. The negativity surrounding the post even made its way as far as TikTok, where one user posted a video defending the child. They said: “I think Phoenix is adorable... You know he just has a big head because he has a small body and he’s gonna grow into it. “And I also wanna bet that he’s a much cuter baby than most of these people in the comments were when they were babies...
