Elon Musk has baffled fans of the popular game Warhammer 40,000 by seemingly borrowing from the title as the inspiration for his newest child's name: Techno Mechanicus. A new biography on Musk written by Walter Isaacson revealed the existence of the previously unannounced addition to the billionaire's family which he reportedly had with former partner the Canadian musician Claire Boucher aka Grimes. It has not been disclosed exactly when Musk and Grimes had the child but it is the third the former couple have had together, despite their relationship ending in 2021. This now brings the number of children that Musk has brought into the world to 11 but the new baby's name has raised the eyebrows amongst many, mostly because it sounds like something from Warhammer. Mechanicus is indeed a word from the game most commonly associated with the Adeptus Mechanicus faction, a group of cyborg warrior priests which does sound like something that would appeal to Musk. With this in mind, Warhammer players and those in the know have taken to Musk own platform X/Twitter to point out the similarities. The new child's unusual name, who is said to be called 'Tau' for short, follows a tradition between the pair who have named their previous two children X Æ A-Xii, or X, and Exa Dark Sideræl, or Y, respectively. After weeks of high-budget lurid pink publicity, it’s easy to forget that Barbie director Greta Gerwig is the indie writer and producer behind Frances Ha, Little Women and Lady Bird. Now, Gerwig has revealed the films that inspired the candy coloured sensation. One of the most prominent influences is The Wizard of Oz, the 1939 Judy Garland classic which a US Library of Congress exhibition described as “America's greatest and best-loved home-grown fairytale”. Gerwig said during her interview with Letterboxd it is an “extraordinary, beloved” movie. “It does something which I wanted to emulate which is these incredible sound stages and these painted skies, and this sense of authentically artificial, which I think is very beautiful and emotional. It is entirely sung-through, similar to a musical or an opera. Gerwig said she “loved the use of colour” in the film. “The surrealness of the colour was a big part of it”, she added, saying that Barbie’s use of “five different shades of pink or red in one shot and not have it overwhelm anything” was influenced by the film. Other films on the list of influences include Saturday Night Fever, The Truman Show and The Godfather (yep, you read that right). Of Saturday Night Fever, she said: “I always had a sense of wanting this to be a movie with an amazing soundtrack. “Saturday Night Fever obviously has this incredible soundtrack by The Bee Gees. I had watched a documentary about them and was so touched by The Bee Gees and Barbie seemed so disco to me. Actually in her heart. If you were a kid in the early 2000s, chances are you grew up watching the cartoon SpongeBob SquarePants during your childhood. The loveable sea sponge and his best friend Patrick the starfish got up to all kinds of funny adventures, but now a dark adult version made by the show’s creators has found its way online. SpongeBob “Behind Closed Doors” is a book of NSFW pornographic drawings created by the cartoon show’s storyboard artists. The pictures that were never intended to see the light of day have now ended up online after they were recently uncovered by a lost media researcher this month. In a 2012 interview, the former writer and storyboard director at the show, Kent Osborne, revealed that such drawings existed and explained that there existed a book of NSFW, obscene depictions of SpongeBob SquarePants characters drawn by the storyboard artists. Osborne revealed: “At the end of the season, all the storyboard artists would do these hilarious, crude drawings of SpongeBob on Post-It notes just to make everyone else laugh.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter On 18 July, these images ended up being posted on YouTube by a user named LSuperSonicQ, who captioned the video: “The Darkest SpongeBob Lost Media, Found [Behind Closed Doors].” The video was about the book as the video creator revealed they were in touch with someone who had a copy of the NSFW document. It included a picture of the front cover and six images from inside the book which depicted characters from the cartoon engaging in sexual scenarios. The YouTuber also tweeted about the discovery, writing: “This is, the lost SpongeBob HOLY GRAIL https://youtu.be/mo1xHGhgjZQ “In the early 2000s, a dozen of SpongeBob's storyboard artists contributed inappropriate drawings to a book called Behind Closed Doors. “For over 20 years this was unknown to exist and never been seen until today.” indy100 has contacted Nickelodeon for comment.
