Comedian Matt Rife under fire for 'domestic violence' joke in Netflix special
Comedian Matt Rife under fire for 'domestic violence' joke in Netflix special
Comedian Matt Rife has responded following backlash over his Netflix special that opens with a joke about domestic violence. In a clip taken from Natural Selection, Rife tells an anecdote about a restaurant server with a black eye, who his friend claims 'should be in the kitchen' so no one can see her. "I feel like if she could cook, she wouldn't have that black eye", Rife quips. However, instead of issuing an apology, the comedian posted a link on his social media to a website selling helmets for people with special needs. Yikes. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter

Miriam Margolyes claims Leonardo DiCaprio was 'smelly' on Romeo + Juliet film set
Miriam Margolyes claims Leonardo DiCaprio was 'smelly' on Romeo + Juliet film set
Miriam Margolyes has left people in stitches after footage resurfaced calling Leonardo DiCaprio a "bit smelly." The British-Australian actress featured alongside the star in Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet in 1996 when DiCaprio was just 21 years old. On an episode of This Morning, Margolyes candidly discussed her relationship with DiCaprio, saying the pair got along well. However, attention soon turned to his hygiene, with Margolyes sharing: "Because it was very hot in Mexico and I think young boys, he was very young at the time, they don't make themselves fragrant, they don't wash all the bits." "I don't think he'd be delighted you said that on the telly," host Holly Willoughby responded. It comes after the news that Margolyes will be joining the cast of Doctor Who for its 60th anniversary which will air this November. Speaking about Doctor Who, Margolyes said: "I’m relieved I got to work on Doctor Who before I died. With sci-fi you never know. Thank you for making an old woman very happy." To mark the milestone, three episodes will feature David Tennant, before Ncuti Gatwa debuts as the fifteenth doctor in December. Tennant previously shed light on his decision on rejoining the popular show, telling EW: "The real answer is that I still love it,” he explained to EW. “You do spend your years away from Doctor Who, always watching it. Always thinking of ideas. Thinking about how I would expand it, thinking of stories... It never goes away "I have been inventing stories in my head ever since I was about six. So when I left the show, that doesn’t stop." Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Elon Musk will give Wikipedia $1 billion if website agrees to childish name change
Elon Musk will give Wikipedia $1 billion if website agrees to childish name change
You know how anytime you go onto Wikipedia you're asked to donate? Elon Musk could get rid of that once and for all, on one condition. Wikipedia is run by a team of volunteers and is free to access. Volunteers help keep the site up to date as well as write numerous translations for various articles to increase the accessibility. Now, Elon Musk is offering the site $1 billion dollars, but only if they change their name. Musk, who clearly has the same humour as a 12-year-old, is prepared to give out a large cheque if Wikipedia becomes... 'D**kipedia'. Musk was seemingly inspired after seeing the standard appeal for donation on the site, although was unsure why the site was asking for money. "Have you ever wondered why the Wikimedia Foundation ants so much money?" The Twitter/X CEO asked. "It certainly isn't needed to operate Wikipedia. You can literally fit a copy of the entire text on your phone! "So, what's the money for? Inquiring minds want to know..." But a quick Google and Musk could have found the answer himself. Samantha Lien, a spokeswoman for the Wikimedia Foundation, told The Washington Post: "Based on guidance from the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees, our reserve amounts to one year of operating budget. "If there were circumstances that affected our ability to raise those funds during that period, we could end up in an urgent situation - the reserve is a safety net to protect Wikipedia against such as possibility." Although, the large donation perhaps isn't the best use of Musk's money after his wealth dropped by $16 billion after shares in Tesla dropped by 9.3 percent since the company released its 2023 third-quarter earnings report. Tommy Fury vs KSI fight result has been officially changed after judging error
Tommy Fury vs KSI fight result has been officially changed after judging error
The Tommy Fury vs KSI fight took place on Saturday and the result has been changed following a mistake on the official scorecard from the clash. A sold-out crowd at Manchester's AO Arena watched the pair go head-to-head in the highly anticipated match where Fury was declared the winner by majority decision - much to KSI's outrage. In a majority decision, two judges score a fight for one side, and the third one scores it differently. However, when a photo of the three scorecards was shared on social media showing how the judges scored the fight, boxing fans couldn't help but notice that the scorecard of judge Rafael Ramos had been added up incorrectly. He gave KSI and Fury a 57 each when the score actually was 56 to KSI and 57 to Fury. This error has since been rectified to a 57-56 win for Fury by unanimous decision, talkSPORT reported. Following the match, KSI declared the result a "robbery" and says he is going to appeal the decision. "Robbery, it's a robbery bro," the YouTuber said. "How many jabs did he land? And he had a point taken off as well. You weren't landing. Look at your face, look at your eyes. Look at you." He added: "How do I lose a six-rounder? Unreal. "He [Fury] is the man who is meant to be a pro boxer and he won a majority decision? It's outrageous man. The amount of times he hit me in the back of the head. So many times. "And the referee only took one point? He kept doing it over and over. "I'm sorry, it's outrageous. "We're going to appeal, I want to appeal. I felt like I won that." Meanwhile, Fury branded KSI a "sore loser," and a "bum," in response to his "robbery" accusations. "Was it my best performance? No, absolutely not, but we knew it was going to be a stink fest, because one man didn't want to come to fight," Fury told IFL TV. "Where I come from in the gyms and stuff, you stand there and have a fight. This guy was hopping up and down the ring and didn't want to engage, it was a scrappy affair… "That was a horrible fight, I've not even watched it back and I'm not even sure I'm going to want to watch it back, because I was useless in there, but I still got the win." Olivia Rodrigo sparks debate for 'dystopian' virtual meet and greet
Olivia Rodrigo has divided social media after hosting a meet and greet in Target. Why? Because Rodrigo wasn't even there, and it was completely virtual. In a clip posted to X/Twitter, a 'Good 4 U' singer was sitting crossed-legged on a large digital screen as diehard fans asked questions. "A virtual meet and greet… this feels so dystopian," the original tweet read – and many more agreed. "They sounded like a sitcom laugh track when they cheered," one joked, while another person added: "This is so awkward like the pauses and the late reactions why would she do this LMAO." Meanwhile, many others believed it to be an innovative concept. "Honestly I think it’s a cool and accessible way for fans to meet people, plus it’s safer," one person wrote. "When they start doing these using AI reconstructions of people and their voices without the real person needing to spend their time meeting people - then it really becomes dystopian-like." "This is such a cool idea honestly," a second fan penned, with another reiterating: "I actually love this. It’s great for artists' safety and gives fans a chance to feel seen." One X user wrote: "Feels amazing tbh. If only I could call like this to my family that lives in another country. My son could see his grandparents in real size more often." It comes after the 20-year-old dropped her second studio album GUTS last Friday (8 September). To celebrate the release, Rodrigo surprised fans across New York at the GUTS Gallery pop-up experience. "I never got to actually experience any of the fun events that go along with an album release!” she told PEOPLE . "I never got to watch people as they listened to the songs for the first time. It’s really fun." Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy.
