Johnny Depp and Jenna Ortega shut down 'ridiculous' 40-year-age-gap dating rumours
Dating rumours have been circulating about Johnny Depp and Jenna Ortega - and now the actors have responded by adamantly denying this. It all began when celebrity gossip account, Deuxmoi, said that the pair had been spotted on a date together, and also perhaps working together on Tim Burton's Beetlejuice 2. However, the 20-year-old Wednesday actor was quick to dispel these rumours connecting her to the 60-year-old Hollywood veteran in an Instagram Story. “This is so ridiculous I can’t even laugh," Ortega told her 40m followers. “I have never met or worked with Johnny Depp in my life. Please stop spreading lies and leave us alone.” Meanwhile, Depp's camp has also vehemently shut down these rumours too, describing how the Pirates of the Caribbean actor was "appalled" by them. His rep told NME: “Mr. Depp has no personal or professional relationship with Ms. Ortega whatsoever. He has never met her or spoken to her. “He is not involved in any project with her, nor does he intend to be. He is appalled by these baseless and malicious rumours that are intended to harm his reputation and career.” Beetlejuice 2 is set to see Ortega play the daughter of Lydia Deetz, the role famously played by Winona Ryder in the original 1988 film, while Ryder and Michael Keaton will also reprise their roles for the sequel. The film is expected to be released on September 6 2024. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. The Elon Musk biopic is already being called 'the worst film ever made'
It might seem harsh to judge a film before it has even come out but news that an Elon Musk biopic is in the works has not been greeted with a warm reception. News emerged on Friday that Black Swan and Requiem for a Dream director Darren Aronofsky will helm the project which is based on the recently published Walter Isaacson on the tech billionaire. For those who saw Danny Boyle's 2015 film about Steve Jobs, creatively called Steve Jobs, might remember that biopic, starring Michael Fassbender, was also based on an Isaacson biography of a powerful tech individual. The film will be distributed by indie darlings A24, with Variety reporting the several studios and filmmakers were involved in an intense bidding war to option the project. As the film has just been announced there is no release date or cast as of yet but fans have cast their vote, believing that Kevin Durand should play the South African. That being said, the overall response to the film's announcement has not been a positive one with some already calling it 'the worst film ever made.' Musk doesn't need much of an introduction but it will be interesting to see what direction the movie takes and whether it is critical of the tech mogul's more recent activity notably his much-maligned takeover of Twitter. Aronofsky's last film, The Whale was also distributed by A24 and saw Brendan Fraser win the Oscar for Best Actor. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. JK Rowling says she would ‘happily’ serve prison time over trans views
JK Rowling has revealed she would "happily" serve two years in prison over her transgender views. Taking to Twitter/X, the Harry Potter writer - who has been outspoken on her views on the matter - responded to a Mail on Sunday story that suggested a hypothetical Labour government could introduce gender-related “aggravated offences," which may carry up to a two-year sentence. The report added how misgendering a transgender person could be listed as an "aggravated offence." “I’ll happily do two years if the alternative is compelled speech and forced denial of the reality and importance of sex," Rowling tweeted and then noted how she would fight the charge. “Bring on the court case, I say. It’ll be more fun than I’ve ever had on a red carpet.” The 58-year-old then joked about what kind of duties she would do in prison if she were ever in that scenario. “Hoping for the library, obviously, but I think I could do ok in the kitchen,” Rowling said. “Laundry might be a problem. I have a tendency to shrink stuff/turn it pink accidentally. Guessing that won’t be a major issue if it’s mostly scrubs and sheets, though.” Before imagining what prison life would be like, Rowling had tweeted a photo from Dazed magazine which in 2018 projected the statement, “Repeat after us: Trans Women are Women,” onto the British Ministry of Justice offices. “No,” she wrote as the caption, sharing her opposition to the statement.
