All-female presenting line-up to lead football coverage on TNT Sports
TNT Sports’ football coverage will be led by four female presenters in the new season as it seeks to “push the boundaries” of sports broadcasting. TNT Sports replaces BT Sport from Tuesday, with Laura Woods confirmed as host of its Champions League coverage alongside Reshmin Chowdhury. Jake Humphrey, who fronted BT’s Champions League coverage last season, announced he was stepping back from his role in May. Lynsey Hipgrave will continue to host live Premier League coverage on TNT Sports, having done so since the start of last season, while Jules Breach replaces Des Kelly as the broadcaster’s pitchside reporter. Ally McCoist joins the TNT punditry line-up for Premier League and Champions League matches, which will still feature the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Peter Crouch and Joe Cole. “We do want to be contemporary, we do want to be bold, we definitely want to push the boundaries of what sports broadcasting has been in this market over the previous years,” Andrew Georgiou, the president and managing director of Warner Bros Discovery Sports Europe, said. “It’s a really good opportunity for us to reflect on what’s happened and it’s almost like, ‘Okay, we’ve got a moment in time to refresh and rethink’.” The rebrand follows the completion of a deal in September last year to form a joint venture that combines the assets of BT Sport and Eurosport UK. We do want to be contemporary, we do want to be bold, we definitely want to push the boundaries of what sports broadcasting has been in this market over the previous years Andrew Georgiou From Tuesday, TNT Sports is available to stream via the discovery+ platform. UK subscribers with a premium plan will be able to access TNT Sports and Eurosport via the discovery+ platform, allowing them to watch both networks’ live sport in the same place as well as discovery+ entertainment content. The cost of the premium plan is £29.99 a month, the same as was previously charged for the BT Sport Monthly Pass. Eurosport’s live rights include the Olympic Games and the Tour de France. Georgiou said TNT Sports would be keenly focused on the Premier League’s invitation to tender for its next set of domestic television rights later this year. “We are a premium sports broadcaster and our 100 per cent stated ambition is to remain a premium sports broadcaster, and reviewing our rights portfolio to make sure that remains (the case) is in the bullseye of our agenda,” he said. “We look at everything that comes up. Obviously the Premier League tender is up at the end of the year. That is a key part of our rights portfolio and something we’re focused on.” The PA news agency understands the new domestic offering will feature at least 60 more live matches than the current deal but split into a smaller number of packages available for broadcasters to buy, from the current seven down to five.

Oppenheimer’s grandson claims there’s a ‘serious’ historical error with the film
Despite an impressive Rotten Tomatoes rating of 94 per cent and floods of gushing reviews, it seems Oppenheimer may contain a historical error. The real-life grandson of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the American theoretical physicist and the 'godfather of the atomic bomb', has spoken out about a "serious accusation" in the film towards his grandfather. Oppenheimer filmmaker Christopher Nolan based the script on the book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin. It went on to win a Pulitzer Prize. Charles Oppenheimer acknowledged that he found himself "accepting and liking" the film, but called one detail inaccurate. "The part I like the least is this poison apple reference, which was a problem in American Prometheus," he told TIME. "If you read American Prometheus carefully enough, the authors say, 'We don't really know if it happened.'" He was referring to the scene at the start, in which Oppenheimer (played by Cillian Murphy) leaves a poisoned apple out and a visiting scientist nearly bites into it. "There's no record of him trying to kill somebody," he told the publication. "That's a really serious accusation and it's historical revision. There's not a single enemy or friend of Robert Oppenheimer who heard that during his life and considered it to be true." In fact, Barbie and Oppenheimer performed so well at cinemas this weekend (21 July) across the UK that Vue International said they sold the most amount of tickets since the pandemic. Tim Richards, chief executive and founder of Vue International, said: “Vue saw its highest weekend admissions since Avengers: Endgame in 2019 with the release of Barbie and Oppenheimer, proving that when the movies are there our customers will come to watch them on the big screen. “Barbie is tracking to become the biggest film of 2023 and has a good chance of getting into the Top 10 highest-grossing films of all time. “It is an incredibly exciting moment for the industry, and we expect this trend to continue for the coming weeks.” Have your say in our news democracy. New horror movies inspired by Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh and Cinderella are being made
More horror films that parody our favourite childhood characters are on their way. The childhood tales of Winnie the Pooh, Peter Pan (Red Shadow Studios) and Cinderella (ChampDog Films) are getting a terrifying transformation as a result of the stories being part of the public domain. It comes after the controversial Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey movie that was panned by critics but was commercially successful. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Now, two new parody horror films are underway that spoof everyone's favourite golden bear and the boy who never grew up, Variety reported. And if the titles are anything to go by - Winnie the Pooh: Death House and Peter Pan Goes to Hell - they're certainly not suited to younger audiences... First up, we're getting another Pooh-based horror with Winnie the Pooh: Death House which has been described as The Strangers meets The Purge. It will be directed by S.J. Evans (Dead of the Nite), the film's storyline involves "an unexpected school reunion in a remote country mansion – an event orchestrated by members of a cult who were mercilessly tormented by the guests as children. Now, years later, they’re out for gruesome revenge." "The script is supremely clever with scope for iconic visuals, and we have assembled a terrific young cast loaded with star potential. I’m very excited to share this dark and disturbing horror with the world," Evans said. Meanwhile, Peter Pan Goes to Hell, written by Adam Stephen Kelly and directed by Phil Claydon is said to be in the vain of horrors such as Psycho and Nightmares in a Damaged Brain. Although, there is not much information about the plot Claydon did provide some insight and shared his excitement for the film "I grew up on a healthy diet of low-budget horror from the masters like Sam Raimi, Wes Craven and Peter Jackson," he said. "In recent streamer times, opportunities to create high-concept horror on a small budget had vanished so I relished the opportunity to dive on board with Red Shadow Studios in carving out an environment for filmmakers to come and craft some grassroots scares. Let the mayhem commence." "The huge interest in horror movies based on public domain properties piqued my interest as it did many, but with Red Shadow Studios – in partnership with Dolphin Medien – I’m trying to bring together really talented filmmakers and high-caliber actors as I firmly believe that, in this space, budget doesn’t have to mean compromising on talent or creativity," Kelly added, describing the two films as "absolutely ‘out there’ gonzo takes on beloved children’s stories." Along with this, Cinderella is set to have a 'horror-fication' with the film Cinderella’s Curse being for sale at AFM and ITN Studios are set to the film in October 2023, according to Bloody Disgusting. The film is set to be produced and directed by Louisa Warren and written by Harry Boxley and the cast includes Kelly Rian Sanson, Chrissie Wunna and Danielle Scott. “This an incredibly unique spin on the Cinderella we all love and know. There are going to be some truly horrific deaths by her hands," Warren to the publication “I think the gore hounds are in for a treat in my dark retelling.” Elsewhere, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 is set to start filming this Autumn, Collider reported.
