Squid Game is the most-watched series on Netflix, and now details about season two of the survival thriller have been announced. Since the first season hit the streaming platform back in September 2021, the South Korean show became a global hit with fans desperate to know what happens next. While season two was confirmed in a teaser trailer last year, Netflix has released a cast announcement video to share which characters will be returning as well as new faces we'll see in the new series. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Lee Jung-jae is set to come back as the main protagonist Seong Gi-hun, along with Front Man played by Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-joon as police officer and detective Hwang Jun-ho and The Salesman portrayed by Gong Yoo. New players were also introduced as they went up to the voting machine as seen in season one where players choose whether to continue in the game (green button) or to leave (red button), with all of them pressing green to indicate we will see them in the second season. The new cast members include Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, and Yang Dong-geun - though there were no details as to the characters they are set to play in season two. So when can we expect the second season? Not for a while, according to the show's creator Hwang Dong-hyuk who told Vanity Fair in May last year that new episodes won't be ready for release until the end of 2023 at the earliest, with a 2024 release date being a possibility. The latter is looking more likely as Lee Jung-jae revealed back in February this year that filming for season two will commence in the summer and believes it will take longer to shoot than season one. “Squid Game 2 will begin filming in the summer and the filming will likely last for about 10 months," he told South Korea's Ilgan Sports. "We were working on Season 1 for about 10 months as well, but that was with delays caused by Covid-19. But seeing as Season 2 will be bigger in scale, it will probably take longer to complete." Elsewhere, Netflix also released a trailer for the real-life Squid Game series called Squid Game: The Challenge set to be released in November this year, the show has previously received criticism from contestants about conditions on set. Actor Angela Bassett, who played Tina Turner in the 1993 biopic What’s Love Got to Do With It, has shared an emotional tribute to the 'Proud Mary' singer following her death at the age of 83. Official social media channels for Turner, who was also known for the hit 'The Best', shared the news on Wednesday evening (May 25), remembering her “boundless passion for life” which “enchanted fans worldwide and inspired future stars”. A statement from a representative confirmed the singer “died peacefully” at her home in Switzerland “after a long illness”. Tributes soon flooded in honouring the musician, with stars such as Mick Jagger, Beyoncé and Diana Ross paying their respects. In Bassett’s tribute to Turner – born Anna Mae Bullock – on Instagram, the Golden Globe-winning actor said farewell to “a woman who owned her pain and trauma and used it as a means to help change the world”. She continued: “Through her courage in telling her story, her commitment to stay the course in life, no matter the sacrifice, and her determination to carve out a space in rock and roll for herself and others who look like her, Tina Turner showed others who lived in fear what a beautiful future filled with love, compassion and freedom should look like. When a statement announcing the sudden death of Lil Tay, a 15-year-old viral rapper who rose to fame as a nine-year-old on Instagram, was posted to her account earlier this week, it led to an outpouring of grief and sorrow. But that has given way to confusion and relief in equal measure, after TMZ reported that she is now very much alive. In a statement from Tay’s family, she said: “I want to make it clear that my brother and I are safe and alive, but I’m completely heartbroken, and struggling to even find the right words to say. “It’s been a very traumatizing 24 hours. All day yesterday, I was bombarded with endless heartbreaking and tearful phone calls from loved ones all while trying to sort out this mess.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Lil Tay rose to fame as the “World’s Youngest Flexer” who rapped and showed off a lavish lifestyle across social media aged just nine, garnering 3.2m followers on Instagram. However, the account went dormant in 2018 after a video was posted online in which she appeared to be coached by someone off-camera, whom many suspected was her brother Jason. Tay was also reportedly caught in the middle of a custody battle between her parents, Angela Tian and Christopher Hope, which had been going on in court since about 2018, around the same time the influencer’s account went dormant. The account resumed briefly that October with bizarre and concerning activity, including a video of the girl crying that was posted and then taken down. The posts were later scrubbed, but led to allegations of abuse by her father, amid the custody dispute. In 2021, activity briefly restarted on the account, with several posts accusing Christopher Hope of physical and mental abuse and of stealing all of Lil Tay’s money. Hope denied the allegations and sent a cease and desist letter to Instagram. An unsigned statement posted to the account on Wednesday said the star’s death at 15 was “sudden and tragic” and “entirely unexpected”. It also said her older brother, Jason Tian, who had at one point been in control of her account, had also died, and that both deaths were under investigation. Both Lil Tay’s father and former manager had refused to confirm or deny her death, with the latter calling for “cautious consideration” in handling the news. Speaking to Insider, her father, Christopher Hope, declined to comment on the Instagram post and declined to answer whether his daughter was alive. Her former manager, Harry Tsang, also declined to confirm or deny her death. “Given the complexities of the current circumstances, I am at a point where I cannot definitively confirm or dismiss the legitimacy of the statement issued by the family,” Tsang told Insider on Wednesday. In a follow-up 24 hours later, Tay was thanking Meta for helping to get her Instagram account back, and had removed the fake death statement. She said: “My Instagram account was compromised by a 3rd party and used to spread jarring misinformation and rumors regarding me, to the point that even my name was wrong.
