Internet slams Prince Harry for 'lying' after he claims passage in bombshell memoir 'Spare' is not true

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Prince Harry admitted that he no longer believes that his own writing for his memoir 'Spare' is true. He made the claim in reference to a passage in his autobiography about one of his school friends selling a story to tabloids about the Duke of Sussex being rooted in a shaky "assumption."

At the London court, the 38-year-old said that he was of the impression that a story about his Eton College classmates shaving his head as a joke got leaked after 20 years after one of his friends shared it with the tabloids, according to the New York Post.

'Many years later, it seems that wasn’t the case'

Explaining the turn of events, Harry stated his version in the bombshell memoir published in January 2023. "As a kid at school, I could never have imagined how they got wind of that story so I made the assumption [that a friend leaked it]," he said.

"Many years later, it seems that wasn’t the case," Harry admitted. He is currently in the middle of a lawsuit trial against Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN) whom he accused that they have used unethical means to obtain information about him.

'I become paranoid about the people around me'

While he testified at the court, Harry also added that most of his friendships have been ruined following press scrutiny. "Unfortunately many of those friends, who became paranoid over the time, are no longer my friends. The more this happens over time, the less you share with people…I become paranoid about the people around me," he said.

In his 55-page witness statement, Harry mentioned that he was upset after many articles from 2002 alleged he used drugs along with his friends. "The fact that the defendant’s journalists were trying to drag some of my friends into this and name and shame them sickens me," he stated.

"Not only did I have the stress and worry about who I could trust with any personal details about myself, but I also knew I had to worry about anyone that I was close to becoming a target for the defendant," Harry added.

'He already can’t say what’s real in it and what’s not'

After the Duke of Sussex admitted that he no longer believes the passage in his memoir to be true, social media users rushed to slam him over the row of controversies and contradicting statements following the release of 'Spare'. One Twitter user wrote, "Why not call it as it is, he's lying about it. It's that simple," and another tweeted, "Prince Harry wrote a WHOLE memoir (Spare) about everything but now claims he can’t remember what’s true or not about his own life and his own words? It’s honestly disturbing, this book wasn’t even published long ago and he already can’t say what’s real in it and what’s not."

"That is the problem when you lie, you can’t remember what the truth is," a user remarked, and someone tweeted, "Spare was always going to be the undoing of him. Both with his family now in court," and another person wrote, "Memories may vary... He is literally drowning in a pointless trial. This man-child is even worse than I thought."
