'Making it seem like I'm losing my mind': Tom Cruise once accused 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' of setting him up with heavy editing

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Tom Cruise, known for his action-packed roles, is gearing up for the July 12 release of his highly anticipated action spy film 'Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One'. While Cruise has undoubtedly made a name for himself in the industry, his career has not been without its controversies. One standout moment took place in 2005 during a memorable interview with Oprah Winfrey.

At the time, Cruise had recently started dating Katie Holmes, and their relationship had become public. During the interview, Cruise's enthusiasm was on full display as he excitedly discussed his new romance. He couldn't contain his excitement, smiling widely, pumping his fist, and even jumping on Oprah's couch, captivating the audience with his exuberance. The interview instantly became a viral sensation, generating widespread discussion. However, looking back, Cruise reportedly voiced his discontent regarding how he was shown, claiming that Oprah's show intentionally set him up through manipulative editing techniques.

Tom Cruise's bizzare behavior became recurring joke on internet

"I'm in love. I'm in love, and it's one of those things where you want to be cool, like, 'Yeah, I like her'... but that's not how I feel," Cruise had candidly shared with Oprah, Us Weekly reported. Subsequently, Cruise's behavior during the interview became subject to analysis and became a recurring joke on the internet.

Meanwhile, Hollywood comedian Seth Rogen was reportedly privy to Cruise's true feelings regarding his controversial appearance on Oprah's show. In Rogen's debut book titled 'Yearbook', the actor and comedian mentioned meeting Cruise in 2006, just a year after Cruise's infamous interview with Oprah. Rogen revealed that he, along with Judd Apatow, had an extensive discussion with Cruise at his home, exploring the potential for the actor to take on a comedic role.

'It was all totally normal, until, it wasn't'

"It was all totally normal, until, it wasn't," Rogen wrote in the book. Cruise revealed to Rogen that he believed the 'Oprah Winfrey Show' had edited the interview in a way that cast him in a negative light. "Well, yeah, they're making it seem like I'm losing my mind," Cruise reportedly told Rogen. "There's a coordinated effort to make it appear that way."

When pressed by Rogen to elaborate on the motive behind making him appear unhinged, Cruise allegedly suggested that the pharmaceutical industry was responsible due to the actor's exposure of their fraud. "They're scrambling and they're doing everything they can to discredit me so I won't hurt sales anymore," Cruise allegedly said.

In 2008, Cruise and Oprah revisited their previous interview. During this interaction, the actor said that the energy and enthusiasm displayed in their initial conversation were genuine. "That was a moment, and it was real, and I don't know if I would [do it differently]. I really don't," Cruise said, per the NY Post.
