LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Nelly Furtado has stated that she has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The Canadian singer, 44, confessed to Fault Magazine that she was diagnosed with the ailment 18 months ago and has been utilizing dance and choreography as a way of coping with it in a natural way.

Furtado revealed that since being diagnosed as an adult, she hasn't been "overly theatrical about it," instead focusing on "finding ways" to handle the issue. Nelly is well known for her popular single, ‘I'm Like A Bird and Maneater’, as well as her 2008 lauded duet Broken Strings with James Morrison.

She had a five-year break from performing until 2022, when she joined Drake onstage in Toronto for his event. Later, on May 22, 2023, Furtado sat for her first photoshoot in six years alongside the Fault interview, revealing her stunning body in a sheer black leotard and vivid tie-dye outfit.

‘I do have the inattentive type of ADHD’

"I just got diagnosed with ADHD in the last 18 months of my life," she explained. Furtado added, "I believe I've had it my whole life, but playing instruments six days a week as a kid kept me in check. So now, I've been using choreography and getting in the dance studio as a natural way of dealing with my ADHD. I find that discipline really helps my brain. The good news is I'm getting to know my brain really well. I love talking about it, so I'm hoping to share my experience with people and have conversations about it."

Furtado added, "I do have the inattentive type of ADHD, not the hyperactive kind. I've had it my whole life. She went on to say, "I think it was probably a blessing that they didn't know until now. Because I think I'm mature enough now to not be overly dramatic about it and just deal with it and find solutions rather than dwell on the emotional side of it."
