MANHATTAN, NEW YORK CITY: Wendy Williams’ son Kevin Hunter Jr, 22, recently opened up about her deteriorating mental and physical health in an interview with The US Sun. According to his claims, the popular show host’s financial guardianship seems to be the reason behind her poor state which has been consistently worsening in the past 2 years.
The concerns over Williams’ health are not a recent occurrence. Her mental health issues, especially related to a worrying consumption of alcohol, have been affecting her in more ways than one. “Ever since the court hearings ended, something just has to be brought to light about what’s going on and how much people are taking in this situation,” Kevin said about his mother’s 2022 court battle.
In the summer of 2022, Williams had to contest for access to her bank account with the finance company Wells Fargo. The company targeted her weakened mental state as the grounds for disallowing control over a huge amount of money. Eventually, Williams was placed under the care of a financial guardian Sabrina Morrissey.
Since the show host lost direct access to her own money, her son Kevin, who is a college student, also lost access to funds for his education. He has been approached by his mother’s team to take part in a biographical project on Williams’ current state but has refused to get on board.
Kevin also doesn’t find that Morrissey “has done a great job at all” because of her vague and irregular communication with him and the rest of the family. He confessed that he was suspicious of her actions and that she is hiding something.
'People are taking advantage of her alcoholism'
Kevin’s major concern in relation to his mother has been the people Williams is surrounded by. This includes both her professional and personal relationships. The young man suspects Williams’ team and her friends of encouraging her heavy drinking habits for their own benefit.
"There are a lot of people who are very aware that there is an issue with her drinking, and how that issue may be helped, but I think these people are taking advantage of it while allowing it to play out to make it look like they aren't causing the issue."
This is especially worrying when it comes to her management team as Kevin claims that they have made her agree to things when she was not in her healthiest mental state, including while she was in rehab for her alcoholism. “They have made her agree to things when she was not in her healthiest mental state," he said. "They had her in a position where she was agreeing to a lot that she shouldn’t have,” Kevin said.
What Kevin primarily finds an issue with is how people around Williams have always prioritized her work and money over improving her health. He couldn’t help but deduce that they are taking advantage of her.
"What's been made more important by the people around her is that while her health may not be great, she needs to keep on earning income, and in my opinion that should not be a priority at all. And whoever has been hired - they are taking advantage of someone who needs to get better," he said.
Kevin hopes for a healthier Wendy
Williams’ son only hopes that her health should become the priority and that she should be able to take out time to recover rather than do more work. Kevin has previously taken care of his mother and has witnessed her health improve by taking measures that don’t trigger her alcoholism. “When she was with me, none of these articles of her not looking well ever came out,” he shared in the interview.
It is only the guardianship proceedings that Kevin can place as the breaking point for Williams’ health. Now, Kevin is just hoping things get better for his mother and that she recovers soon.
