SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA: Steve Harwell, the former frontman for Smash Mouth has entered hospice care at 56 years old. Harwell, who retired from the band in 2021 is "on his deathbed" and has entered the last stage of liver failure, which was brought on by lifelong struggles with alcohol abuse, as per TMZ.

Harwell is home and being cared for by his fiance, Robert Hayes, a manager for Smash Mouth, confirmed.

A source said, "Unfortunately this is the case." "Steve is resting at home and being cared for by his fiance and hospice care."

"We would hope that people would respect Steve and his family’s privacy during this difficult time," the source added.

In 2013, the California-born singer was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, a combination of diseases that affects the heart. He had also been suffering from Wernicke encephalopathy, which causes several painful symptoms such as difficulty walking, hypothermia, and confusion.

Further adding, "As of today, Steve will be retiring from Smash Mouth to focus on his physical and mental health."
