About Shirley Ryan AbilityLab

Formerly the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC), the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab is a not-for-profit nationally-ranked physical medicine and rehabilitation research hospital based in Chicago, Illinois. The facility was originally founded in 1954 and is designed for patient care, education, and research in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R). The AbilityLab serves as a rehab for both adults and chidren suffering from some of the most severe conditions such as traumatic brain and spinal cord injury, stroke, amputation, and cancer-related impairment.

The hospital is directly affiliated with Northwestern University and partners in research and medical efforts at the university campus. Research efforts are focused on areas of neuroscience, bionic medicine, musculoskeletal medicine, and technology transfer. The upgraded center which spans 1.2-million-square-feet was opened in March 2017 and became the first “translational” research hospital in which clinicians, scientists, innovators, and technologists work together in the same space. Speaking of Foxx, the specific reason for his treatment at the center remains undisclosed. However, his daughter recently divulged that the 'Collateral' star has been out of hospital for weeks and has been actively participating in physical activities like pickleball. According to Fox 32 Chicago, the AbilityLab does offer an adaptive and sports fitness progam.

'Sad to see how the media runs wild'

Several news outlets ran stories of a potential medical emergency, but some were informed differently and published stories that contained misleading information. Corinne Foxx couldn't help but notice the media confusion and took it upon herself to set the record straight. "Update from the family: Sad to see how the media runs wild, My Dad has been out of the hospital for weeks, recuperating," she posted on her Instagram Stories.

Some outlets ran with the story that Foxx's loved ones were reportedly "preparing for the worst" and that the 'Django Unchained' star was "on Life Support in [the] ICU." One such celebrity news outlet apologized to the family and its readers via a statement on Twitter. "We would like to apologize for the misinformation regarding Jamie Foxx's condition we unfortunately thought the source we had was real but it was not," the Daily Loud tweeted. "We are sorry to Jamie and his family for our actions here and continue to wish him nothing but good health. Sorry for letting our followers down as well. We will do better in the future and will make sure every source is properly fact-checked from here on," they added.
