Who is Bonang Matheba?

Bonang, whose full name is Bonang Dorothy Matheba, was raised in Mahikeng, the capital city of the country's North West province. Her parents, Charlotte Mokoena and Andrew Gampi Matheba, were her main influences as she grew up. Her father, Andrew Gampi Matheba, is a well-known academic, and her mother, Charlotte Mokoena, is the Executive Vice-President of Human Resources and Corporate Affairs at Sasol.

Furthermore, her half-siblings are model Reabetswe 'Rambi' Sechoaro and brother Thabo Mokoena.

When Bonang was a child, her family relocated to Johannesburg. She grew up in Hillbrow and Pimville in Soweto before breaking into the entertainment world. Bonang's lovely household was shattered when her parents divorced.

The celebrity was born on June 25, 1987. She is well-known for giving herself expensive birthday celebrations. Her almost $26k 30th birthday bash in 2017 was legendary. The event was held in The Summer Place in Hyde Park, one of Johannesburg's most elite locations. Bonang recruited dancers from the Joburg Ballet Company to perform during the bash. She didn't skimp on the details, as she looked magnificent in a custom-made gown by local designer Gert-Johan Coetzee. Precious Thamaga, the celebrity event planner from Precious Celebrations, assisted Bonang in creating the magnificent night.

Breakthrough in the entertainment world

South African multi-award winning radio host, TV presenter and MC, Global Citizen ambassador, and style icon, Bonang, amiably referred to by fans as Queen B, has firmly established herself as Africa's most sought-after entertainment personality. With over 8.58 million combined social media followers, she is considered the African continent's social media sweetheart.

Bonang knew she wanted to "be great and live a life of greatness" from an early age, and her big break came as a presenter of 'LIVE' on SABC1, followed by a radio host role at Metro FM. This was only the beginning of a career that has taken an incredible path.

In 2019, Bonang received the renowned Award for Best Inspiration & Influence at the prestigious Global Social Awards hosted in Prague, Czech Republic, as well as Africa Influencer of the Year at the first-ever E! Entertainment People's Choice Awards held in Los Angeles, California. Bonang was named one of Forbes' 50 Most Powerful Women in Africa at the start of 2020, and she was also on the cover of the Forbes Women Africa March issue.

Bonang created her very own luxury beverage brand, the HOUSE OF BNG, in March 2019 with the debut of a line of MCCs (Brut and Brut Rose), which was recently expanded with the release of a Prestige Reserve.

In 2019, Bonang's appearances on screen included the third season of her reality show 'Being Bonang', the award-winning documentary 'Public Figure', (in which Bonang starred and co-produced), and her own episode in 'Activate', a six-part National Geographic documentary series about Global Citizen's efforts to eradicate poverty by 2030.

When she's not on the red carpet or in front of the camera, Bonang is a Global Citizen ambassador and the founder of the Bonang Matheba Bursary Fund, which seeks to send 300 girls to university by 2025.

In 2017, Bonang published her best-selling book, 'From A to B'. She described her rise to fame in the book and revealed some personal aspects of her life, such as the abuse she endured at the hands of her ex-boyfriend. Somizi Mhlongo, Bonang's on-again, off-again companion, threatened to sue her for the book's contents. In her book, Bonang stated that she stopped communicating with her BFF after he became friends with her violent ex. Somizi flatly contradicted her account of events and wasted no time in writing her a legal letter. The old adversaries have, however, reconciled. Back in 2019, Bonang was among the guests at Somizi's traditional wedding.

Twitter users also ridiculed Bonang's book. They discovered other inaccuracies in the book, including a sentence with her erroneous birthday.

Who has Bonang Matheba dated in the past?

Bonang's outlandish allegations about her love life have already stunned admirers. Bonang makes a big assertion in the 'Young, Famous, and African' season two teaser. "I f**ked the biggest stars in Africa," she declares confidently.

Between 2007 and 2008, Bonang dated the Swatta Kamp rapper, Slikour. In an interview with slikouronlife in 2016, she declared, "Until this day, I will never speak ill of you."

Bonang's relationship with DJ Euphonik, which lasted from 2009 until 2012, has been described as "toxic." The romance, which was once an "it-couple," suddenly fell apart after Bonang accused Euphonik of assaulting her. She later dropped her allegations.

Bonang and the Nigerian superstar D’Banj had a brief affair that was made public during the MTV Africa Music Awards in 2015. Despite multiple loving social media postings, D'Banj surprised fans when he hooked up with an ex-girlfriend just months later.

Bonang supposedly had a secret affair with the late rapper AKA in 2015 after ostensibly being abandoned by D'Banj. AKA was in a relationship with pregnant baby mama DJ ZInhle at the time. After being dubbed a "homewrecker," Bonang and AKA rose to prominence as one of the industry's most popular couples. But their romance ended just as dramatically as it began. In 2018, AKA accused his ex-girlfriend of witchcraft.

While Bonang has never talked publicly about these supposed romances, she has been linked to a mystery Albanian businessman known by admirers as Fatmir Hysenbelliu. She has also been linked to Distruction Boyz member Banele Mbere, as well as soccer stars Simphiwe Tshabalala and Itu Khune.

Bonang also said that she is in a new relationship, so she asks people to be patient with her.

"I'm in Cape Town," she explained. "Shooting episode 2 as we speak. Askies…. Had to pause many things due to unforeseen circumstances… please bare with me. Kea jola also- so, laziness."
