How did Ray Lewis III's die? Autopsy reveals disturbing details about Ray Lewis' son's tragic death

MIAMI, FLORIDA: Ray Anthony Lewis III, son of former Baltimore Ravens great and Pro Football Hall of Famer Ray Lewis, died in mid-June at the age of 28. Lewis is among the best defensive players to ever suit up for the NFL. Three of his four sons - Rahsaan, Rayshard, and Ray Lewis III - followed his football career. Lewis' eldest son, Lewis III was the first to follow in his father's footsteps.

More than a month has passed since Lewis III's death. It was eventually discovered that the 28-year-old died from an accidental overdose. Now more information has come to light regarding Lewis III's death. According to the Casselberry Police Department, Lewis III was found unconscious in a bedroom of a central Florida residence. Despite efforts by authorities to revive him with Nacran, the son of NFL Hall of Famer reportedly died following an accidental drug overdose.

What was the cause of Ray Lewis III's death?

According to an autopsy report obtained by TMZ, Lewis III died from a fatal mix of drug overdose. The former college athlete's system contained alprazolam (Xanax), alcohol, cocaine, methamphetamine, and fentanyl. Despite the efforts of those around him and the administration of Naloxone, Lewis III seemed to be unable to cope with the fatal drug combination. The cause of death was determined to be accidental.

According to police, they found Lewis III unconscious after responding to a report of a medical emergency at a home in Florida on June 14. They claimed that a friend had yelled for Narcan (a medication used to counteract overdoses) at the time. An officer allegedly administered Narcan to Lewis, but there "was no change to his condition," the department claimed at the time. Later, Lewis III was declared dead.

According to reports, a blue tablet thought to be Alprazolam, the generic name for the Xanax anxiety medication, was found close to the body. Authorities also discovered a used needle and a little plastic bag inside an empty beer can. Lewis III's friends said that he was "acting strange," although it is uncertain whether they were referring to drug or alcohol use.

Lewis III attempted to emulate his renowned father by beginning his collegiate playing career as a Hurricane for the University of Miami (Fla.). During the 2021–22 season, Lewis III also played in seven games for the Wyoming Mustangs of the Champions Indoor Football League. In a post on social media, Rashaan Lewis referred to his older brother as a "true angel" and expressed his hope that he is "at peace now because I know how much you was really hurting."
