Spoilers for ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 3 Episode 10

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The recently aired episode of Apple TV+ comedy sports drama ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 3 has given chills to its viewers with Rebecca’s emotional speech about football. Not to mention, there was a time in Season 1 when Rebecca wanted AFC Richmond to fail miserably, thus hiring Ted Lasso, however, her journey throughout the seasons has shown her personal growth significantly. When she spoke about the sport in front of old and greedy men, she reshaped her personality in the show.

‘Ted Lasso’ Season 3 Episode 10 ended on a high note with Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) giving an emotional speech about football in front of old men, including his evil ex-husband, Rupert Mannion. Her speech portrayed a sense of leadership and belonging for sports as she wanted to put some sense in greedy old men’s heads against the creation of another Super League. Even Rupert had a change of heart after Rebecca’s speech. The mere idea of a Super League is illogical for a true sports fan and it came up again in ‘Ted Lasso’s latest episode. Although this episode had many eyes on Nate, Roy, and Keeley, it was Rebecca who truly showed how much she has grown since we first met her.

New Rebecca featuring ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 3

Rebecca Welton, the one we met on the first episode of ‘Ted Lasso’ is no longer the same cold, determined, and revenge-seeking powerful woman. Rebecca’s speech was passionate and full of emotions as it reflected her love for football. Initially, she was isolated and the only person she was seen talking to was Leslie Higgins. But in Season 3, she has evolved prominently as she’s the model of good management in the Premier League which is reflected on the pitch whenever Richmond plays.

The credit for her transformation goes to so many people surrounding her, without whom it wouldn’t have been possible. Ted Lasso bringing him biscuits every morning and his constant habit of barging into Rebecca’s office. Also, in her blooming friendship with Keeley, she became her confidant and counselor as she’s great at giving advice. Moreover, Roy did have a hand in her personality growth as he reminded her of her own self-worth (the lightning speech), and how to become a successful boss. Even Nate’s betrayal at the end of Season 2 helped her put things in order about the work at the club.

Throughout the show’s progress, Rebecca understood that not everything is about her, especially football as many people are investing their deepest emotions, time, and energy into it. She realized that football can be a force for actual change in the world and it belongs to the people. She understood that football in itself has power, but the people attached to it are the ones she met and grew closer to. Now she knows that she’s actually one of those people.

Rebecca’s speech against the Akufo Super League

Though Edwin Akufo is funny, he is the worst. His attempt at complicating things for AFC Richmond has surpassed once by taking Sam Obisanya away, and now he is back with another up idea- a Super League. Surprisingly, this is a recurrent subject in the sport where only the best and richest teams in Europe play a tournament. When Rupert invited Rebecca to discuss the proposal with Akufo and other old men, she gave an emotional speech that changed the heart of Rupert against the Akufo League. She used Rupert as the main argument, explaining his life story to demonstrate that the idea will live at the expense of the poor.
