The Weeknd slammed for 'lifeless' and 'creepy' performance in 'The Idol': 'So hard to watch'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The highly anticipated premiere of 'The Idol' showed up-and-coming pop diva Jocelyn dealing with a picture controversy while attempting to recover. Then she meets Tedros, who has done nothing except weird viewers out since his brief debut in the first episode.

The first episode of 'The Idol' had Jocelyn, played by Lily-Rose Depp, appearing for a highly sensual picture session. After all, she's gone through, her crew, particularly Troye Sivan's Xander, is concerned for her. They are especially worried about her mental health. "Mental illness is sexy," says Jocelyn's record label executive, Nikki, played by Jane Adams. During the revealing picture shoot, a nudity crisis emerges. If Jocelyn is going to reveal more nudity, the nudity rider must alter. Jocelyn insists she is not under any pressure to display her nudity. During the picture session, her crew finds that a photo of Jocelyn with c*m on her face has leaked. Despite the fact that the photo issue is becoming increasingly serious, Jocelyn is the last person to learn about it. Jocelyn goes to a club to let off some steam when the scandal breaks. That's where she runs into The Weeknd's Tedros.

Jocelyn falls for Tedros amidst major scandal

Jocelyn looked immediately taken with Tedros. They started kissing in a stairway. Jocelyn and Tedros discuss her career after nearly being caught by Leia, played by Rachel Sennott. "You have the best job in the world." Tedros advises her, "You should be having way more fun."

\Tedros visits Jocelyn's place the next night. While he waits for her, he examines her surroundings with interest. He scans her security camera rapidly. Jocelyn and Tedros enter her music studio, where she performs one of her songs for him. She shares the first song she wrote when her mum passed away. He enjoys it, although he has one "minor" criticism for her, "I don’t believe you. If you’re gonna sing a song called ‘I’m A Freak’ you should at least sing it like you know how to f**k." "What makes you think I don’t know how to f**k?" she responds. He snarls, "Your vocal performance."

Tedros informs Jocelyn that she is "locked up" in her thoughts. He thinks she to "block out the world." He had Jocelyn wrapped around his little finger at this point. Furthermore, he removes her robe and covers her face, but he doesn't allow her to breathe. He draws a knife and tells Jocelyn to open her mouth. He makes a hole for her to breathe. "Now you can sing," he declares.

'The weeknd should be in jail'

Fans took to social media to share their pov as they write, "Not kidding the moment The Weeknd was introduced the show got bad lmao like there was potential in the first half of the episode when they focused on her management team but then the plot was lost." Another person added, "my review of the idol is jocelyn needs therapy and the weeknd should be in jail." One fan noted, "I don't know but The Weeknd's acting on #TheIdol is so hard to watch. He's supposed to be this charismatic stud but it felt like he's just a lifeless creep. it's not convincing. And Jocelyn, I'm sorry but your single is not that girl. Ashley O is still the better pop star." A fourth user tweeted, "‘The Idol’ is indeed problematic. Lily-Rose Depp’s Joss lacks agency, acts erratic. Her attraction to The Weeknd’s character makes no sense. They have zero chemistry. Shallow characters disconnected from reality. Script is poorly written. It’s a stinker."

One viewer quipped, "The Weeknd giving a performance that only a real cokehead could give." Another person added, "The Weeknd needs to be humbled so ungodly bad." A user noted, "I have so many thoughts on The Idol, it's hard to fit them into words. The Weeknd will not leave this squeaky clean, as he is a sole proprietor to the mess." One viewer further commented, "the weeknd character is sooo creepy i am grossed out."

'The Idol' airs new episode every Sunday on Max at 9 PM ET.
