SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS: Country music singer and songwriter Charlie Robison, who was first married to Emily Strayer and then Kristen Robison, died on Sunday, September 10, at the age of 59 after celebrating his birthday on September 1.

His death was confirmed by his representatives to Fox News Digital. Charlie, who began his career in the 1980s, died at a San Antonio hospital due to cardiac arrest and other complications, as reported by the Associated Press.

The country singer's debut solo album, "Bandera," released on August 6, 1996, was named after the Texas Hill Country town where his family had owned a ranch for eight generations.

After releasing his album, Charlie made an effort to appeal to a broader audience. However, as he explained on his website, he was reluctant to confine his music or public image to a specific category.

Charlie Robison's wife Kristen Robison posted about his death on Facebook

Kristen Robison, the second wife of Charlie Robison, whom he married in 2015, took to Facebook to let near and dear ones know about his death.

She wrote, "It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that my husband, Charlie Robison, has passed away today, surrounded by his family and friends. My heart is broken. Please pray for me, our children, and our family.”

The couple share a son named Jett James, who was born in February 2020. Additionally, the singer became a stepfather to Kristen's children, as reported by Variety.

Charlie Robison's marriage to Emily Strayer

In May 1999, Charlie Robison married Emily Strayer, a founding member of the country band 'The Chicks', known for her roles as a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. Their nuptials took place in a private ceremony at Cibolo Creek Ranch in Texas, attended by close friends and family.

The couple welcomed three children together, Charles Augustus (Gus) in November 2002, followed by twins Julianna Tex and Henry Benjamin in April 2005. Unfortunately, their marriage ended in divorce in 2008 after nine years, but they shared joint custody of their children.

Charlie Robison's sister pays heartfelt tribute

Charlie Robison's sister, Robyn Ludwick, posted a heartfelt tribute on Sunday, writing, "Broken in the deepest most irreparable way."

"My big brother Charlie passed away in the arms of his loved ones," wrote Robyn on Facebook, adding, "Please play some Charlie Robison on Repeat. He would want it that way."

Charlie Robison's health woes

In January 2018, Charlie Robison's associates provided an update on his well-being following a medical intervention performed on his throat.

"From that surgery he has been dealing with some complications during this routine recovery," read the Instagram post.

It added, "Charlie is continuing to heal and is working with is doctors daily to resolve the issues he is having and get back out on the road. WE appreciate all of the fans, venues and promoters for their patience and support during this time. We will keep everyone in the loop on his progress and recovery."
