Prince Harry and Meghan Markle face backlash for 'cheap' lodging choice after recent car chase controversy

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle have reportedly been held responsible for the car chase that the pair had to allegedly endure Tuesday night, May 16. Sources have claimed that if they would have paid for a hotel room during their visit to the Big Apple, the incident could have been avoided.

A New York City law enforcement insider told Page Six, “They should have just gotten a hotel for the safety of everyone. Instead, they were cheap and wanted a free place to stay.” The tipster continued, “Harry and Meghan's people called the Carlyle [hotel] ahead of the trip and asked for a discounted room, and the hotel said no. If they had just paid up and got a hotel in the first place, this supposed ‘dangerous’ paparazzi chase around town would never have happened.”

‘They have to take intelligent steps’

“They would have been driven back to the Carlyle, been photographed going inside and that would have been the end of it,” they said. They added, “Harry and Meghan put regular people’s lives at risk because they are cheap. They should just accept that people are going to take photos of them, photographers are going to follow them — this is New York — and they have to take intelligent steps to ensure their own security for the safety of themselves and everyone else.”

As per reports, the Susexes and Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland were returning from a charity event at the Ziegfeld Ballroom where they were tailed by paparazzi for two hours. They even went into the NYPD’s 19th Precinct for safety but then left in a taxi to trick paps but eventually came back to the police station before using their own car. Further, in a statement, the New York City Police Department said, “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at their destination, and there were no reported collisions, summonses, injuries or arrests in regard.”

‘You could have been in a much more safe situation’

This comes after AllSTAR Security president Mark Selden slammed the royal duo. He reportedly said, “They were at a police precinct, which is the safest environment they could be in. And that's where they should have stayed in a safe environment, never should have left.” Selden continued, “If what I understand, they were with one security guard from what I've read, allegedly. And, you know, one security guard is obviously not enough for the former royals or the royals that they are.”

Moreover, referring to the apparent hours' chase, he noted, “It makes zero sense to someone who's a New Yorker. You could have gone to a police station in 15 minutes anywhere in New York City, could have gone to a firehouse, or gone to a governmental building.” “You could have gone to a hotel where [the paparazzi] could have been locked out. You could have gone anywhere. You could have been in a much more safe situation, let alone running around New York City in a car. I can't imagine running around New York City for two hours and not finding safety is beyond me. I mean, you can walk into a hotel, you can walk into a building, you can walk into a Fifth Avenue building, and they'll close the door behind them and lead you to safety,” Selden added.
