Who is Alison Albrecht? Internet slams NBC for cutting down 'The Voice' Season 24 contestant's blind audition

UNIVERSAL CITY, CALIFORNIA: 'The Voice' team, headed by Reba McEntire, will now include a University of Michigan alumnus. Alison Albrecht, a 23-year-old from Novi in Metro Detroit, sang "Ironic" by Alanis Morissette for her blind audition, which aired on the popular NBC singing competition on Monday, October 2. However, the network severely disappointed fans by chopping it down.

Reba was the only coach to turn her chair for Alison after longtime coach Blake Shelton resigned after 23 seasons. "You had the range, but then you had that sincerity in your voice, too that I absolutely love," Reba said. "Welcome to team Reba, and I'm so glad to have you."

“I liked Alison’s voice,” continued Reba. “I think she’s really going to grow on the show and surprise all of the coaches.”

On YouTube, fans turned to express their disappointment over the extremely short version of Alison's audition which was aired. One person wrote, "We all know the full performance was amazing, can't wait for them to actually air one!!!"

While another person complained, "WHY DO THEY ALWAYS DO THIS." "Right?!?!?! Definitely not a fan of the montages," wrote another.

A fourth user noted, "I get why they have montages to fit all the auditions into their scheduled time slots but they really should montage the 0 chair turn auditions instead of doing montages for people who’ve made it on the show."

Others added, "I wanted to hear more from Alison, but montages, montages, montages, etc." While one quipped, "Thanks for the montage and the spoiler in the video title." One user further asked, "Here we go with the montages. Ugh! Why?"

'The Voice' Season 24 Alison Albrecht released her first EP at age 15

Alison won a contest at the age of 14 in which she earned studio time, a producer, and a booking agent. She eventually released her first EP.

Alison's original music combines pop, folk, and soul with "insightful songwriting." She cites Lorde, Stevie Nicks, Carole King, and Joni Mitchell as influences.

She won the Michigan State Fair Superstar competition in 2014. This resulted in her self-titled first EP, which included a rendition of Stevie Nicks' "Edge of Seventeen." Alison followed up with a second EP, "Start Again," the following year, while she was still just 16 years old.

During the pandemic, Alison and her brother Andrew set up a home studio and began composing and recording new material. As a consequence, she released two singles—"I Say" and "Right Place, Wrong Time"—as well as her third EP, "Hurricane," last year.

Alison, who is now 23, has also released two singles this year, "Red Dress" and "White Tab." The latter is a wonderful tune that exemplifies her goal to integrate music with teaching. Alison claims it arose from her efforts to improve her own mental health. She describes the song as "a love letter to anyone going through a dark time."

'The Voice' Season 24 airs every Monday and Tuesday on NBC at 8 pm ET.
