Who is the 'Jeopardy!' champ for July 27, 2023? Lucas Partridge defends his title as he earns big win

CULVER CITY, CALIFORNIA: 'Jeopardy!' Season 39 is set to reach its end as it wrapped up its penultimate episode on Thursday. The final week of the game show barely held any contestant for longer than two days but Lucas Partridge might just be able to do that.

Partridge was able to keep his title for another day after a fiery performance against the two contestants Alicia Schaffer and Zach Razavi. He stumbled a few times and was neck-to-neck with Schaffer throughout the episode. However, luck was on his side and he managed to come out triumphant from the episode. He will now be facing high school Spanish teacher Sharon Bishop and a career education librarian Monica Chavez for the final episode of this season.

Lucas Partridge versus Alicia Schaffer at 'Jeopardy!'

Partridge and Schaffer took the lead in this episode as Razavi struggled to get closer to their high scores. Partridge had already taken quite the lead from the very first round, scoring a whopping $5,200 after he aced most of the categories. While Schaffer lagged behind with a three-figure score because of some big flubs here and there, the category for 'Anagrams' became her savior as she was the only contestant to swipe all the clues up.

The two contestants also shared the Daily Double questions between them, both winning one, which helped their scores shoot up to equally impressive figures. The episode saw a couple of categories causing major distress to the contestants' scores as there was a surprising number of triple stumpers for a single episode. Moving into Final Jeopardy, Schaffer was not far behind Partridge and gave him serious competition throughout.

How did Lucas Partridge become 'Jeopardy!' champ again?

Final Jeopardy led Partridge to have a score of $13,600, while Schaffer was closing in on him with $11,000. The clue for this round was from the category Fighting Forces and said: "Formed in 1831 to help with the conquest of Algeria, its ranks have included Germans, Turks, and Chinese." All three contestants were able to correctly answer the clue with "French Foreign Legion" so it all came down to the wagers they had made.

Razavi only made a small wager despite his correct answer, not giving him much of a lead on the board. But even Schaffer's big wager of $6,999 could not beat Partridge as he remained confident in his trivia skills and put down an amount of $8,500. His score for the day became $22,100, adding up to a total of $42,200 for his two-day streak so far. It is indeed a shame that we won't be able to see much of Partridge's trivia skills this season as it comes to an end tomorrow.
