Amanda Nunes and Irene Aldana will go head to head in the main event of UFC 289 this weekend, with the women’s bantamweight title on the line. Brazilian Nunes, who also holds the featherweight belt, began her second reign with the bantamweight strap last year, outpointing Julianna Pena to regain the title that she lost in the pair’s first clash. The result of their initial fight is deemed one of the biggest upsets in UFC history, and the women were set for a trilogy bout here, until Pena suffered an injury. As such, Aldana steps in, seeking a third straight win and aiming to become the fourth Mexican champion in UFC history, alongside the still-reigning trio of Brandon Moreno, Alexa Grasso and Yair Rodriguez. The 35-year-old faces a tough task, though, with Nunes – also 35 – widely considered to be the greatest women’s fighter in MMA history. In the co-main event, former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira faces Beneil Dariush, who is seeking his first shot at the division’s title. Here’s all you need to know. When is it? Jake Paul and Conor McGregor have reignited their feud, with the YouTuber claiming that he will ‘beat up’ the former UFC champion if they go head to head. Paul has gone 6-1 as a professional boxer in recent years, while McGregor is due to return to the Octagon later this year to fight Michael Chandler. Paul and McGregor have long traded barbs, however, and the latter called the American a ‘donkey’ this week. Paul, 26, was quick to respond to the Irishman, addressing McGregor’s comment while speaking on Impaulsive – a podcast hosted by his brother Logan Paul – on Wednesday (31 May). “I think Conor McGregor is funny as f***,” Paul said, “but when I watch him talk s*** about me, I’m like: ‘Guess what, Conor? I’ll beat the f*** out of you.’” Paul went on to mention his upcoming boxing match with Nate Diaz, with whom McGregor traded wins in the UFC in 2017. “You can’t box as good as me, and I’m gonna do to Nate what you couldn’t, which is knock him out,” Paul said. “You’re gonna be sitting there with your new beer company, which is failing, realising that you p****d your life away. You’re gonna say, ‘Damn, I really thought no one was gonna do what I did in this sport, I really thought no one was gonna be as big of a name, I really thought I was gonna be the biggest forever.’ “But you can’t have both lives; you can’t have the fun, party life and be the greatest fighter in the world, and you chose the wrong path. But that money fight will always be there, and when I knock Nate Diaz the f*** out and you realise I’m the biggest fight for you, call me.” While Paul vs Diaz is set for 5 August in Dallas, McGregor vs Chandler is still without a date, location and weight class. McGregor, 34, and Chandler are serving as opposing coaches on the new season of The Ultimate Fighter, which began airing on Tuesday (30 May). Tommy Fury brawled with a fellow former Love Island contestant on Saturday, coming to blows with Idris Virgo in the crowd at KSI’s fight with Joe Fournier. FOLLOW LIVE: KSI vs Fournier – latest fight updates Fury, half-brother of world heavyweight champion Tyson, is unbeaten as a professional boxer but is best known for his time on the reality television show Love Island, on which Virgo also featured. Virgo, who is also unbeaten in pro boxing, and Fury were seen fighting in the crowd at Wembley Arena, moments after a fight had finished. On the undercard of YouTuber KSI’s bout with businessman and ex-pro boxer Joe Fournier, influencer Salt Papi fought Anthony Taylor. The latter, a former training partner of Jake Paul, previously lost to Fury – as did Paul this February – but was named a decision winner against Salt Papi on Saturday. However, while the fighters waited for the judges’ scorecards to be revealed, Fury and Virgo began to brawl in the crowd. Tom Aspinall will headline UFC London in July, returning from injury to take on Marcin Tybura. British heavyweight Aspinall suffered a knee injury just 15 seconds into the main event of UFC London last July, as he took on Curtis Blaydes. Aspinall, 30, has not fought since, but the Wigan fighter will return almost a year to the day after his ill-fated clash with Blaydes. Aspinall (12-3) faces Tybura (24-7) at the O2 Arena on 22 July, as the Briton looks to bounce back from his only loss since 2016. Meanwhile, his Polish opponent enters London on the back of a two-fight win streak, having outpointed Blagoy Ivanov in February after beating Alexandr Romanov via decision in August. Prior to those victories, Tybura was outpointed by Alexander Volkov, whom Aspinall submitted in the first round at UFC London in March 2022. This March, the UFC staged its first-pay-per view in the UK since 2016, as Leon Edwards retained the welterweight title against Kamaru Usman in the main event of UFC 286. The upcoming July event, meanwhile, will be a Fight Night. A UFC Fight Night will take place in London in July, just four months after the MMA promotion last came to the UK. In March, the UFC held its first UK pay-per-view event in seven years, as British champion Leon Edwards retained the welterweight title against rival Kamaru Usman at the O2 Arena. On Saturday 22 July, the UFC returns to the venue for a Fight Night, with Wigan’s Tom Aspinall set to face Marcin Tybura in a heavyweight main event. Liverpudlian star Molly McCann will also be in action, with more fights to be announced in due course. Ticket prices for the event are also yet to be revealed, but they are expected to be cheaper than they were for March’s UFC 286 event. At UFC 286, the average ticket price was £225.50, whereas the same type of seat was £88 at the Fight Night staged by the UFC in March 2022. As Fight Night events are of a smaller scale than pay-per-views, ticket prices for July’s card should be lower than those from UFC 286, but it is possible that they will still be more expensive than 2022’s Fight Nights in London. Furthermore, all three UFC events at the O2 Arena since March 2022 have been affected by touts, who have sold tickets at drastically-escalated prices – on top of the increased base price. A statement by the UFC on Friday (21 April) read: “Following three consecutive sold-out events in London, fans are encouraged to register their interest early to have the best chance of securing tickets via ufc.com/London and to follow @UFCEurope on social media for the latest updates on this event. “Tickets go on sale from 10am BST on Friday 26 May, via AXS and Ticketmaster.
